Fantastic weather, dead easy launch, poor fishing, however.

After the email reports of the last few days it seemed that hoping to get fish today would result in disappointment. Sometimes the fish just don't cooperate for days on end, especially at this time of year.

Jaro out the back, ready to paddle. The weird light reflection effect in the foreground was caused by a combination of low shutter speed and his headlight which he was wearing on the left rear side of his head as a safety device. Stinkies were pouring out of the river mouth and we were intending to cross their path. Good idea, I think.

Anyway, the entire posse opted to head for Little Halls Reef and Halls Reef. We generally travelled alone or in groups of two, with those of us heading for Halls Reef, the more distant, at 5km, taking just under an hour to get there.

All had radios, or immediate access to one in young emil's case as he and his Dad soren stuck together.

Despite perfect sea conditions, and reflecting the experiences of others over the last few days, catches were paltry. Using bait, jaro and beejay caught a keeper grassy each, but not of significant size. Stormin seemed to have the measure of the baby snapper, catching many on prawns but no keepers.

Beejay provided a couple of pics:

As you can see, brilliant conditions. It's a pity the fish weren't cooperating.
